Isabelle Lesschaeve, Vineland Research and Innovation Center, Canada

Isabelle LesschaeveDr Isabelle Lesschaeve is an engineer in agriculture by training. She earned a Ph.D. in Food Science, specialized in sensory evaluation at the University of Burgundy, France. She worked for 10 years as a sensory scientist in the Flavor Research Laboratory of the National Institute of Agronomical Research (INRA, France) with Drs. Issanchou and Schlich. In 1997, she moved to Modesto, California, to implement and lead the sensory program at E. & J. Gallo Winery. She since has specialized in the sensory evaluation of wine and the study of wine consumer behaviours.

Lesschaeve joined the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute at Brock University (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) in April 2004 and acted as its director until January 2008. In November 2008 she became Research Chair of the Sensory and Consumer Sciences Cluster at the newly created Vineland Research and Innovation Center (Vineland, Ontario, Canada). The goal of this new entity is to become a world-class research and innovation centre that will transform the outcomes from leading-edge horticultural research into new and commercially viable technologies and products.

Lesschaeve was recognized as a Fellow of the Ontario Hostelry Institute in April 2008. She is also a professional member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture, the American Society of Testing Materials (E18 sensory committee), the Sensometrics society, and the Institute of Food Technologists (Sensory Division and Fermented beverages Division).
